Virtual Server

A virtual server or vserver as it is often referred to, is a server that is not physically located within an area. The concept of a virtual server is that it is not physical and the information stored on the server is essentially virtual. In many cases a virtual server will be referred to as cloud computing. This is a service that is becoming increasingly popular and there are many different companies now offering it. Rather than the information sitting on a server it will sit on the cloud; this is essentially a group of different virtual servers.

There are many reasons why virtual servers are used over normal servers and it is only of late that virtual servers have started to be used. When these servers first emerged it was worried that the security on them would not be good enough. Also many companies preferred to be able to see their server and manage it. One of the major benefits of a virtual server is the matter that it does not require any physical space. As the server is virtual a safe location for the server is not required; this is something that large amounts of money are often spent on. The rooms and environments to keep servers functioning properly can be very expensive.

As well as taking up less space companies tend to use virtual servers due to the pricing. A virtual server is much cheaper to use than a normal server; a company will usually rent space on a server or invest large amounts of money on their own server. Most companies will pay a company for space on their virtual server; this will then be managed by the company for a fee. It is believed that as the server is virtual and often based on the cloud the chances of problems or shortages are slim.

Some larger companies are likely to purchase their own virtual servers and manage these themselves. Whilst the servers are virtual they are still reasonably expensive but much more cost efficient than proper servers. There are many companies moving towards using virtual servers for numerous reasons. One reasons is that servers take a large amount of space and virtual servers do not take any. The costs of virtual servers are much more reasonable and suitable for companies. For smaller companies virtual servers are a great option and a much better option than using proper servers.
